MSC AND PhD DEGREES IN

MATHEMATICS

Opportunities are available for study towards the postgraduate degrees of MSc and PhD by research in the following areas:

  • Group Theory and Computational Algebra
  • Ring Theory
  • Graph Theory and Combinatorics
  • Mathematical Finance

South African students may seek funding from the National Research Foundation (NRF) - a limited amount of funding is also available to Non-South Africans. Candidates requiring financial support should apply as early as possible. Applicants for admission to the MSc programme should possess an Honours degree in Mathematics or an equivalent qualification. The normal requirement for entry to the PhD is a relevant MSc degree. Applicants with insufficient background may be asked to attend Honours lectures on relevant topics.

Postgraduate students are guaranteed access to office space, an up-to-date library and state-of-the-art computing facilities. The pleasant garden-like campus is located in suburban Pietermaritzburg and is within walking distance from several shopping centres.

Applications or requests for further information should be addressed to the Programme Director:
